Outreach to the Bedouin-Israeli Community

Thanks to TFI’s successful Bedouin-Israeli outreach initiative, In the past two years 33 inspiring new Bedouin-Israeli teachers are advancing educational access to over 2,000 at-risk students in seven schools in the Negev. They join 18 Bedouin-Israeli TFIers from previous cohorts, bringing TFI’s total presence in the Negev to 51 teachers who are impacting over 4,200 students.

Through this initiative, TFI has forged relationships with the educational, community, and political leadership of the Negev Bedouin community.
In consultation with local partners, TFI identified 99 candidates and stewarded them through TFI’s rigorous selection process, which was adapted to meet these candidates' cultural needs.
TFI is taking a leadership role in promoting excellence in education in the Bedouin-Israeli community in the Negev.
At the beginning of January 2018, TFI held a conference on the topic of education in the Bedouin community. Participation greatly exceeded expectations, with 170 people crowding into the conference room. In keeping with the conference’s theme– Making Change Together– TFI enlisted the collaboration of a number of Bedouin community organizations in holding the conference. Participants included educators, school principals, TFI mentors, current and future teachers, and Ministry of Education officials. They gathered to explore ways to create partnerships that will advance educational equity for Bedouin-Israeli children and youth. This conference was an exciting opportunity for TFI to engage with the broadercommunity and raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities in education in the Bedouin-Israeli community.
